Some Tips for Engaging with Children and Teens who are Anxious and/or Have Special Needs

Effectively building rapport and connection with a child or teen is a critical process in any investigative interview. Research consistently shows that people of all ages provide more information, and more accurate information, when they feel comfortable and supported. This session will explore ideas for quickly and effectively building rapport with children and teens, and then will delve into specific tips for engaging with children and teens who may communicate differently due to developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.
