Safety Planning with Fentanyl in Depedency Court
This training provides participants with a practical, framework-based approach to developing effective safety plans in cases involving fentanyl. Using the American Bar Association (ABA) Safety Framework, participants will learn how to establish Conditions for Return Home and connect those conditions to safety planning during shelter care.
The training emphasizes the distinction between safety planning during shelter care versus post-dependency in fentanyl cases. The training will identify specific components that must be controlled in a safety plan to ensure a child is protected.
Participants will also build skills in evaluating whether a proposed safety plan participant is appropriate and reliable. It will build skill in monitoring the safety plan to ensure the plan is effective over the life of the plan. Through discussion and applied examples, this training strengthens participants’ ability to assess if a safety plan is possible in fentanyl cases.
