Motivational Interviewing for CW Professionals: Conversations That Empower Change

This interactive workshop is designed for child welfare workers, parent coaches, and professionals supporting children and families through challenge and change. Motivational Interviewing (MI) provides a respectful, collaborative approach to conversations that reduce resistance, strengthen engagement, and support meaningful progress.

Whether working with an overwhelmed parent, a disengaged youth, or a discouraged caregiver, MI helps you meet people where they are and support their own motivation for change. Through hands-on practice and real-world examples, participants will build skills that strengthen empathy, trust and impact.

Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
– Understand the core principles of Motivational Interviewing in family support work
– Use MI techniques to engage families and youth in conversations about change
– Apply MI strategies to clarify goals and support realistic, self-directed steps
– Build confidence addressing ambivalence through compassionate
