Visiting DOC Facilities with Children

This presentation will focus on how to navigate and enhance the visiting experience for children with an incarcerated parent in a Washington State corrections facility. This overview of visiting is specific to Washington State facilities (not city, county, tribal, or federal correctional facilities). We’ll focus on the application process for in-person and video visiting opportunities as well as coordinating expectations and making visits as positive as possible. We’ll also talk about the differences between language and rules between DOC and DCYF. We’ll talk about what a visit room looks like and explain visitor guidelines. We’ll explain that for DOC, visiting is not a right and there are cases where the child may be denied visit privileges. Finally, we’ll discuss why visiting is beneficial
