Building Hope During Reunification
Reunification is a process, not a one-time event. Parents don’t always know what they need for trial return home, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed. That’s why the H.O.P.E. Quick Checklist and worksheets were created and will be part of the H.O.P.E. Reunification Toolkit. The Toolkit will include Safety and Recovery plans, tips for parents, parenting tools, and other useful information, whatever a parent needs.
Those working with parents can help them during this time to identify/complete/obtain the information, not just “here you go.”
Session goals include demonstrating the Quick Checklist and Worksheets; identifying the “helpers” in a parent’s life; and discussing how to complete the Quick Checklist and Worksheets with parents in a hope-centered way.
The objectives for parents are to help them identify goals and the pathways to meet them during reunification; provide families with clarity, organization and confidence; and make reunification feel doable, not daunting.
