Reunifying Families in Cases of Child Sexual Abuse

Family reunification in cases of child sexual abuse can be both challenging and rewarding work. In this workshop, Jenny Johnson-Riley, PhD, a certified sex offender treatment provider and Chris Johnson, MSW, a licensed clinical social worker and prevention professional will offer insight into the treatment and reunification process. Our presentation will begin with an overview of the treatment processes for both victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse before turning our attention to the reunification process.

Drawing on examples from their combined 35 years of professional experience, presenters will discuss:

•Assessing client readiness for reunification
•Writing and presentation of clarification (apology) letters
•Appropriate safety planning
•First family visits
•Assessing progress and increasing visits
•Supporting non-offending parents and siblings
•Concluding the reunification process
