From Silence to Safety: Prevention-focused Communication in Child Abuse and Neglect
Child sexual abuse prevention is a critical yet often underutilized component of child abuse and neglect response efforts. While systems frequently intervene after harm has occurred, professionals across child welfare, education, and justice systems are uniquely positioned to promote early prevention through parent engagement and education.
This workshop focuses on equipping professionals with trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate strategies to support parents in having conversations with their children about body safety, boundaries, and abuse prevention. Drawing on child welfare practice, behavioral health experience, and community-based prevention work, the session highlights how proactive communication strengthens safety planning, supports youth development, and increases the likelihood of early disclosure.
