Reducing Abuse and Exploitation in the IDD Population: An Educational Model

Children and adults with IDD have the highest incidences of abuse, neglect and exploitation. Loneliness and social isolation also contribute and negatively affect mental health. For 20 years, NM has provided socialization and sexuality classes for adults and adolescents. The goals are to increase socialization skills and opportunities, and decrease these risks. This session will introduce the curriculum and the positive impacts it has had on hundreds of individuals and their paid and natural supports.
