Immigration and Related Updates for Professionals and Advocates Serving Children and Youth
This panel will be designed to provide foundational information about the immigration system as well as updates about the immigration enforcement landscape and will be tailored to child/youth-serving professionals.
The panel will be moderated by Rebekah Fletcher and will include a panel of three immigration practitioners (TBD) such as Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Kids in Need of Defense, Legal Counsel for Youth and Children, and/or private practitioners with expertise serving children and families. Panelists will cover the following topics:
* Overview of immigration: agencies, processes, and terminology
* Immigration statuses & forms of relief most relevant to children/youth
* Immigration enforcement processes and how they may impact children and families
* The current enforcement landscape in WA
* Relevant WA laws that limit state & local cooperation (KWW, COTA)
* Resources for supporting families & children w/immigration concerns
