DCYF Prevention Panel: Programs and Services for Upstream Child Welfare Prevention
DCYF prioritizes prevention of child abuse and neglect alongside promoting safe interventions with children, youth and families. Upstream child abuse prevention involves supporting families to access the knowledge and resources they need to keep their children happy and safe. DCYF and community agencies both carry out prevention projects, often in partnership. This panel discussion will provide an overview of the Protective Factors Framework for Child Abuse Prevention and describe 5 upstream and community prevention programs that include DCYF staff and partners: Child Welfare Early Learning Navigators (CWELNs), Home Visiting, Plan of Safe Care, Early Childhood Courts, and Strengthen Families Locally. Each program will share opportunities and outcomes in supporting families, their approach to prevention, and how caseworkers can support families to access prevention services. The session will include time for panel discussion and Q&A. Together, we can strengthen Washington’s families!
